Northwest cruises past Salina Central, 66-21
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - In what was a highly entertaining 1st quarter, turned to Northwest proving to be too much for Salina Central. The Grizzlies never let their foot off the gas on the way to a 66-21 win to advance to the 3rd round of the high school football playoffs.
The Mustangs struck first, and they did it quickly. On the 2nd play of the game, Parker Kavanaugh hit Logan Losey on a quick route, and Losey outran everyone on the way to 7-0 lead.
But Northwest put together a long drive to answer, including two Geremiah Moore 4th down conversions. The second of those went for a touchdown run to make it 7-6 after a missed extra point.
But Central answered right back. A long Kenyon McMillan run, set up another Kavanaugh TD pass, this time to David Brown. At 14-6 it looked like Central may be able to hang with high powered Northwest.
But Northwest took over from there. L.J. Phillips started the barrage with a long TD run, and Northwest never looked back on their way to the 66-21 win.
Northwest will play Kapaun in the sectional round.
