CONWAY SPRINGS, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - After a scoreless first frame, Conway Springs took a quick kick 85 yards to the house early in the second and didn’t look back, beating Plainville 27-14 Friday night.

The first quarter was marred by missed opportunities, with Plainville’s Ethan Hamilton picking off a tipped Izic Billups pass for an opening drive turnover. The Cardinals were unable to take advantage however, turning it over on downs. The rest of the quarter played out scoreless until Plainville sent their punter back late to boot it away on 4th down, and Billups quickly got into return formation. The next thing Plainville knew, Billups was weaving his way through the entire special teams unit for the big return score.

Conway would then force a turnover of their own, Logan Warren jumping on an errant pitch, and they did take advantage with Brayden Kunz scoring a hard earned touchdown on the ground to extend the lead to 14-0.

A second turnover got the Cardinals the ball back once again, ending a Plainville drive that started with great field position following a big kickoff return. And with 18 seconds to go before the break, Billups went to the air to find his back Kunz for the 24 yard score and a 21-0 halftime lead.

Kunz added his third touchdown in the third to make it 27-0, and Conway moved on despite allowing a pair of second half scores from there. Kunz ran for 159 yards with the three total scores to lead Conway Springs. Hamilton put up 125 yards on the ground from his QB position, with Kyle Werner and Anders Dewey scoring the two Cardinal touchdowns.

Conway Springs has a tough trip up next, traveling to unbeaten Inman for the sectional round of the 1A Playoffs.
