Mulvane rolls 4A playoff opener, tops Ulysses
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The Mulvane Wildcats have been rolling since dropping the first two games of the 2021 season winning six in a row and earning the 4-seed in the 4A state playoffs. Now, the streak has been extended to seven games as Mulvane advances with a 46-16 win over Ulysses.
Opening the game, the Tigers were able to come away with the early takeaway after they recovered an onside kick attempt during the opening kick-off. That play would prove to be one of the only few from the first quarter that would go in their favor.
Mulvane’s defense set the tone for the rest of the game limiting any advancement in the early going. The defensive line, anchored by Josh Phillips, wreaked havoc on the Ulysses offense for the duration of the game. Linebacker Trent Moses also played a part in limiting the Tigers on Friday.
Offensively, Mulvane was in sync from its opening possession. Mason Ellis and Julien Myers were controlling the ground for the Wildcats while Ellis was able to connect with Hunter Seier through the air.
Mulvane advances to take on McPherson in the 4A playoffs while Ulysses ends its season at 2-6.
