East advances after tough showing from Garden City
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - In a rematch from the regular season, Wichita East and Garden City went head-to-head with more on the line, and the result proved to be much closer. The Aces, able to build on a 10-0 lead in the first half were able to end Garden City’s season with a 24-7 win.
Offensively it was a slow start for both teams, dealing with fumbling issues early. Garden City ended its first drive by putting the ball on the turf, only to be equaled by an East fumble later in the game.
He first points of the night wouldn’t come until the second quarter when the Aces took a 2-0 lead on a safety. From there, the Aces were able to find paydirt later in the quarter thanks to a drive that heavily featured running back Rayvelle Leak. Leak would find the end zone and score on the two-point conversion for East.
After halftime, the Aces wasted no time finding the end zone, scoring on the opening kickoff. Caquoy Patterson would also add a score later on in the contest.
East advances in the 6A State playoffs, where they will meet Derby.
