WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - One of the biggest upsets of the 2021 season came in the regular season finale, as Wichita East went to Bishop Carroll and beat the Golden Eagles 26-19.

The game got off to a slow start, with the first points coming off of a Bishop Carroll tackle of Daeonte’ Mitchell in the end zone to make it 2-0 Carroll. BC added a field goal, and it was 5-0 about midway through the 1st quarter.

But East punched back hard, when Justin Bell broke off an 80 yard TD run to make it 8-5 after a 2-pt conversion.

The next big blow came as Bishop Carroll mishandled a snap near it’s own end zone. The Aces swarmed and recovered for another TD, and it was quickly 14-6.

In the 2nd quarter Carroll looked to be regaining some momentum, but Dayontay Standiford picked off a Chase Smarsh pass in the red zone to kill the drive, and the Eagle momentum.

In the 2nd half, both teams swapped touchdowns twice, with Carroll eventually getting back within 7. But another East interception on the final Carroll drive clinched the win.
