Garden City, Maize South and Junction City battle at Heights’ volleyball quad
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) -
JUNCTION CITY VS. MAIZE SOUTH
Bella Boulanger opened up serving for Maize South in the first set, she’d get a few aces. Dakota Reece with the clean receive from Boulanger. Ava DeGuzman then sent it back over the net. Boulanger would set up Jillian Gregory for the kill with the Blue Jays at the net to get a piece of it but not enough. Mavs lead 8-0.
Boulanger served again and the Jays return it. Avery Lowe made quick work of it at the net and slammed it down to help Maize South get out to an early 11-0 lead.
Veda Howell helping her team out with a kill to the back line, catching the Mavericks off guard. Junction City getting on the scoreboard but it wouldn’t be enough.
Maize South breezes past Junction City in straight sets; 25-10, 25-4.
GARDEN CITY VS. HEIGHTS
Set one, Maddie Jabara sent it over and Garden County going for the bump, set, spike but Skylyn Hogan-Turner meets Mackenzie Lucas at the net and stuffs the ball so it falls back on GC. The Buffs still led though, 23-15.
Garden City kept the ball in play with some frantic volleys. Mikayla Martinez finally sent it over to Heights where Alina Hoxha set up Michaela Wagner. Wagner goes up, throwing the hammer down and beating the block. The ball drops in behind the Buffaloes to bring the Falcons within seven.
Heights able to claw back from a 10-point deficit to put some pressure on Garden City who struggled to get past 23 points to close out the first set. Jesy Foster received and Mya Delacruz runs in to put it up for Kamdyn Carr who slammed it past the block and right past a diving Falcon for the point.
Buffaloes won set one, 25-23. Heights took set two 25-23 and that forced a third set where Garden City came away with the set win, 25-10, and match victory.
