Rising Star: East’s Tobi Osunsanmi
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Playing in his senior season at Wichita East this year, Tobi Osunsanmi made some noise earlier this summer when he announced his verbal commitment to K-State football.
The first Wichita area athlete to commit to the Wildcats since 2017, East senior safety, Tobi Osunsanmi said he was really only considering KU or K-State.
Osunsanmi said, “It was a process where I just got to develop my relationship with the coaches, making sure I know them, making sure I buy into the program.”
Osunsanmi has also been a stand out on the track, clocking in a 100 meter dash in 10.85 seconds, something he’s sure caught the eye of wildcat coaches. But besides his size and speed, Osunsanmi thinks his athleticism in general is what put him on K-State’s radar.
“Just my effort that I put into each play, running to the ball, making sure I get the last hit on the tackle,” said Osunsanmi.
Planning on making the shift to linebacker in college, Osunsanmi said he started out on the offensive line when his dad brought him to his first football practice at five years old.
“I feel like it’s just me coming out here after school, creating a bond with my teammates and just having fun in the process,” said Osunsanmi. “Just releasing some of my anger out, just being physical.”
Osunsanmi believes that passion for football to carry him through the mental boundaries he’s expecting with this transition to college football.
