Ellis keeps perfect season alive to reach 2-1A State
ELLIS, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The Ellis Railroaders defeated the Inman Teutons 5 to 1 to win the 2-1A Regional Baseball Tournament and earn a trip to State.
The game saw the first and second seed in the bracket face off for the trip to Great Bend and the 2-1A tournament.
Ellis started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Tyson Jimenez reached with a double down the right-field line. Konnor Pfeifer stepped into the batter box next and hit his own double to center field. Jimenez scored from second.
Two batters later, Pfeifer scored from third on a single at the shortstop from Easton Burton to leave the inning ahead 2 to 0.
Inman’s first batter of the top of the second inning, Jayden Leonhardt, hit a home run over the left-field fence. The Teutons could not score any more runs in the inning.
Then in the bottom of the second, Samuel Honas hit a double for Ellis. He made it home on a triple to center by Tyson Jimenez.
At the end of the second inning, Ellis led 3 to 1.
Ellis scored two more runs in the fifth inning.
Designated Hitter Jaryn Wildeman hit a double to left field. Matthew Ernst came in as a pinch-runner for Wildeman. Samuel Honas then hit a sacrifice bunt towards the pitcher to score Ernst from third.
Tyson Jimenez reached third on a triple. He scored on a ball handling error to make the score 5 to 1.
Jimenez went four for four at the plate, scored two runs, and batted in one more.
Ellis pitcher Tegan Cain pitched the complete game. He threw 96 pitches, allowing three hits and one earned run. He faced 27 batters, walking three, and hit one. Eleven batters struck out on his pitches.
Inman used three pitchers. Landen Snyder started and lasted two innings. He faced 14 batters, striking out three, walking one, and one hit by pitch. He allowed three runs on six hits.
Kyler Konrade took the mound next and pitched the most with three innings and facing 15 batters. Konrade allowed six hits and two runs. He struck out three and hit two batters.
Carter Brown pitched the final inning for the Teutons. He allowed one hit from five batters. Brown struck out two and walked one batter.
The Railroaders will travel to Great Bend for the 2-1A State Tournament for the first time since their runner-up finish in 2017.
”Some of the Seniors on this team were there for the championship game in 2017 as Eighth graders,” said Ellis Head Coach Brent Cain. “They saw the heartbreak from that loss, and they are going to come out and take care of business.”
