The track and field postseason has arrived! Thursday and Friday – weather permitting – teams around the state head to their respective regional meets. All state qualifiers will be ranked in our final rankings of the season.

Here are some highlights from various league meets around the state:

GWAL: Wichita Heights senior Elijah Mosley improved upon his all-class lead in the 400m dash with the win in 48.16. Mosley took the 6A lead with the 200m dash win in 21.69. That’s the second-fastest all-class time this spring.

Mid-Continent League: Hoxie senior Caden White improved his 300m hurdle time to 40.12. The meet also featured Class 2A’s top distance runner in Trego’s Wyndom Giefer, who remains the lone 2A runner with a  sub-10 3200. With strong showings in the 4x100, the league also features the top-two 2A times in Oakley and Trego. Half of the 2A leader board in the javelin features MCL throwers, led by Trego sophomore Owen Day with a league-title toss of 177-3.

Lyon County League: Madison senior Kelton Buettner remains one of Class 1A’s top athletes with league titles in the 110m hurdles, long jump, triple jump, and high jump but Olpe senior Max Blaufuss grabbed the biggest headline, expanding his all-class javelin lead with a heave of 208-7. Madison senior Casey Helm added to his all-class No. 4 shot put throw for the win at 55-9.5.

Great West Activities Conference: The league has strong marks across the board from sprints to hurdles to jumps, but  Scott City senior Loren Faurot had the most dominant showing at Thursday’s league meet with a 15-0 effort in the pole vault to climb to No. 2 across all classes this spring.

AVCTL I: The Hutchinson boys sit in a dead heat with Wichita East for the all-class lead in the 4x100 by winning Thursday’s league title in 42.70.

Sunflower League: A highly competitive meet pushed times down across the board. Lawrence Free State took the all-class lead in the 4x800 with a 7:55.56. Aquinas remains the only other team to run a sub 8-minute race this season.

Eastern Kansas League: Aquinas senior Tommy Hazen surpassed teammate Logan Seger for the state lead in the 3200m run. His time of 9:07.89 puts him at No. 12 all-time in the state history books.
