WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Korri Lies is the top pitcher for Cheney softball. As a junior she’s considered one of the leaders on the team who also happens to have an undefeated record this season on the mound.

“I’d say I started playing when I was about seven or eight. It’s just always been my favorite sport and that’s the first sport I started playing and I just got into it,” said junior pitcher Korri Lies. “I’ve been pretty good all my years and I don’t know, I just love it.”

Cheney’s softball coach Matt Johnson said, “Korri’s a phenomenal leader for our team. She’s our number one pitcher and every day she works her tail off and every day she brings the energy and the motivation that our team needs.”

Lies said she doesn’t feel the added pressure of being on the mound and leading the team through games.

“Ever since I was a freshman, I’ve been told that I am but I just do my thing and people look up to me. It doesn’t feel like you are, you’re just doing what you know and they look after you,” said Lies.

“The biggest thing about her is her presence,” said Johnson. “She’s not necessarily a Rah-Rah type of person but when she gets out on the mound and when she gets up to the plate, she just has a aura about her that seems to push our team in the right direction.”

In fact, on the mound is where Lies feels the most at-home out of all the sports she plays.

“I’d say that’s where I’m most confident like that’s my most confident spot in any sport, like that tops it all. Anywhere else, I’m just not ok,” said Lies.

Lies said her dream is to play softball at KU but for now, she continues to work hard and hopes to build off her 7-0 record.
