CIK Girls Track Tracker: Week Five
The day had to come. Friday finally treated track and field athletes to some spring-like weather. The result is a re-ordering of most sheets, especially in the middle distance events.
The Cheney featured some serious 4x400m relays that resulted in three class leaders and the No. 2 spot in Class 1A. Clearwater (4A), Scott City (3A), and Garden Plain (2A) all lead in their respective classes, and Pretty Prairie (1A) sits behind a potent Kiowa County team. In Beloit, Hoisington’s 4x100 team ran a 50.07 to take the lead in Class 3A.
Many of the top milers in Kansas met in Leavenworth over the weekend for the Trials by Miles event. Blue Valley Northwest’s Riley Beach became the first girl to crack five minutes this spring with a 4:58.53 win in the 1600m run. Olathe North’s Anjali Hocker Singh finished behind Beach in 5:01.10. Bishop Carroll’s Hope Jackson finished third in 5:02.26, and Stanton County’s Chesney Peterson ran fourth in 5:02.50.
Smoky Valley (3A) senior Belle Peters and Aquinas (5A) senior Paris Bond each improved to 13-0 in the pole vault to take the state lead and climb to No. 4 on the state’s all-time list. Peters is ranked in the 3A top-four in the 100m, 200m, 100 hurdles, and long jump.
