Larned drops Hoisington in CKL contest

LARNED, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The Larned Indians took game one of a doubleheader against the visiting Hoisington Cardinals 6 to 2.

The two teams met in a Central Kansas League matchup on a perfect afternoon weatherwise.  At first pitch, the wind was light out of the south and a temperature of 82 degrees.

Larned scored first in the bottom of the first inning on a Jack Stelter two-out RBI double to right field.  The double scored Aidan Smyth from second base.

Hoisington evened the score in the top of the second.  Wyatt Wikum hit a double that scored Leyton Haxton from second.

Larned came up next and immediately retook the lead.  Dillan Smith hit a two-out single to right field.  Gavin Alvarez scored from second.  Smith tried to reach second base on the play, but Cardinal Cole Steinert tagged him out at the bag.

Jack Stelter scored the third Indian run in the bottom of the third inning.  He scored on Kaden Pontius’ two-out single to short left field.

Larned took a commanding lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs.  Jack Stelter and Gavin Alvarez both added their second run of the game, and Logan Erway scored his first.

With a 6 to 1 deficit, Hoisington came up in the top of the seventh.  MJ Aylward scored the Cardinal’s second run on a Holt Hanzlick single.

Hoisington could not muster any more runs and fell 6 to 2.

Dillan Smith took the win on five innings of pitching.  He faced 23 batters allowing five hits and one earned run.  He walked three batters and struck out two.

Holt Hanzlick took the loss with five innings pitched.  Hanzlick faced 29 batters and gave up six earned runs on nine hits, three walks, and hit two batters.
