CIK Girls Track Tracker: Week Four
More bad weather pushed several of Friday’s meets to the first hot day of the year on Monday. Though just a handful of teams around Kansas competed in fewer than a dozen meets, the warm weather has already made an impact on this week’s rankings.
Chapman senior Taylor Briggs had the big week in Class 4A, running against 3A leader Jentrie Alderson of Southeast of Saline to take the state lead in the 1600m run in 5:01.07. Briggs also ran the second-fastest 3200m time in the state last week.
And let the record watch begin in Class 2A. Only two females in state history have won four gold medals on the track in one state meet. One only of those runners ran for distance: Jackie Stiles in 1996.
Stanton County sophomore Chesney Peterson recently became the first 2A runner to crack 60 seconds in the 400m dash. Peterson now sits in the all-class top-six in the 400, 800, 1600, and 3200m races. She leads Kansas in the 800m this spring and holds sizable 2A leads in each of the four events.
