Augusta loses third quarter lead and falls to Louisburg
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - A good matchup between second seed Louisburg and third seed Augusta in the 4A boys state semifinal game Thursday night. It was a fairly even game the whole first half with the Wildcats holding a four-point lead at halftime.
The Orioles came out of the break regrouped and bumped themselves out to as much as a five-point lead in the third quarter. But Louisburg clawed its way back to tie the game up at 41 going into the final quarter of the game.
Augusta out shot and out rebounded Louisburg but the Orioles 11 turnovers lost them this narrow game, 58-55.
Augusta shot over 54 percent from the field and recorded 23 total rebounds. While Louisburg hit just under 49 percent of its shots and racked up 18 boards. Wildcat’s Weston Guetterman recorded six steals just by himself, he finished second for his team in scoring with 21 points. Julian Margrave scored 23 points for Louisburg.
For the Orioles, Kaden McDaniel led the team with 14 points, Ryan Andrews in second with 12 points and Xander Roberts to round out the top three scorers and the only ones reaching double digits.
Louisburg has advanced to the 4A state championship game Saturday in Salina at 2 p.m. against Bishop Miege.
