HESSTON, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - After a halftime lead was quickly cut to one, the Hesston Swathers went on a 10-0 third quarter run to build a double digit lead, never looking back in a 49-39 win over Southeast of Saline Thursday night.

Sophomore Anna Humphreys scored 17 in the win for Hesston, 10 of those coming at the free throw line. Junior Katie Kueker was right behind her with 15.

The Swathers overcame a big opening quarter from Karsyn Schlesener to build a 13-7 lead after 8 minutes, scoring the final 7 of the quarter. Schlesener was responsible for all of the Trojan points in the first, and a she also hit a half-court shot at the buzzer that was ultimately waived off. The junior finished with 13.

A late Trojan three cut it to a four point game at the break, and that became 24-23 early in the second half. Then Hesston broke it open, scoring 10 points in the ensuing two-plus minutes to build their biggest lead at 11. The closest the Trojans would get from there was 6.

Up next for Hesston will be the second matchup with Halstead in a two week span. The Swathers beat the Dragons 44-31 on February 20, one of just three losses on the season suffered by Halstead. The winner there will earn a berth in the state quarterfinal round.
