Cheney girls prove why they’re undefeated with 20-pt win over Wichita Trinity
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Undefeated Cheney and Wichita Trinity played for a spot in the 3A sub-state championship at Douglass High School Thursday night.
It was a competitive first quarter until Cheney started pulling away to lead by 12 going into the halftime break. In the second half, the Cardinals continues to dominate and extend their lead to win with a 60-40 final score.
Campbell Hague was waiting under the net and tossed it up to put Cheney up 13-9.
Cardinals were swinging it around until the ball found Lacy Luehers at the baseline. She made the mid-range shot to keep Cheney’s 6-point lead.
Ashlyn Bigelow fed it up to Megan Dedstron who made a break for the basket and laid it in. The Knights trailed 21-15.
Lexi Cline found Kylee Scheer open at the top of the key and she drained the three for the ten-point cushion.
Trinity continued to fight as they tried to stay in the game. Austin Broadie drove to the rim herself and banged it in off the board.
The Cardinals will face Eureka in the 3A sub-state championship game Saturday at 2p.m. at Douglass High School.
