Valley Center holds off Maize South

WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Valley Center hosted Maize South in sub-state competition and came out on top 58-47. The Hornets got out to an early lead but the Mavericks tied things up at the end of the first quarter at 12 points.

Come halftime, Valley Center held a 12-point lead and didn’t really look back. Maize South had a couple small runs to narrow the VC lead but not enough to really threaten the Hornets. The Mavs only had one field goal in the second quarter and only four points total in that one quarter; hitting less than 32 percent of their FGs the entire game.

Valley Center also outrebounded Maize South 49-25. Gabe Phillips from VC lead the game in scoring with 18 points, he teammate Eli Isaacs followed him up with 17 points. Parker Scott was the leading scorer for the Mavs. There were only seven made three-pointers between both teams.

The Hornets live to see another game and will face Maize on Saturday, March 6th at 3p.m.
