WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Seven years in a row; that’s how many times Goddard has won the 5A boys state wrestling title. With seven of their 10 qualifiers advancing all the way to championship matches, the Lions had four of those seven go on to win gold.

Goddard head coach Brett Means said, “It’s been a frustrating year with the COVID and we had a lot of quarantines during the year, we had two kids tonight who wrestled in the state finals that had surgeries or are going to have surgery. They were supposed to not wrestle. They both ended up being state runner-ups, that’s pretty impressive, helped us win as a team.”

”I’ve been wrestling since I was four so I’ve put a lot of years into wrestling, it’s been a part of my life and it kind of built up to that moment, my last year being able to wrestle as a high schooler and really just wanted to be able to make it happen my senior year, last chance I got,” said Goddard senior and 152 state champ, Jace Fisher.

Maize High finished in second place, trailing by nearly 55 points behind Goddard.
