Bishop Carroll wins GWAL title over Heights

WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) -Bishop Carroll held off a late comeback attempt from the Heights Falcons en route to claiming the 2020- 2021 GWAL title, winning 59 to 51.

Facing a 15-point deficit to start the final quarter, Heights found success in the early part of play. The fourth quarter effort saw Heights outscore Carroll 18 to 11 even dwindling the lead to 6.

Ultimately, timely turnovers and clutch free throws would lift the Golden Eagles to victory. As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 19-23 from the free-throw line.

Bishop Carroll found an early spark in Kiley Doonan, the junior scoring 6 of Carroll’s 15 points to start the game. From there, the long game would suit their offensive attack on the night scoring 6 times from behind the 3-point line.

Khloe Schuckman did most of her damage from the free throw line, scoring 10 of her team-high 14 points, without a miss. Doonan would follow closely with 10, while Landon and Kendall Forbes each added 9.

Heights was able to tap in defensively and create points in transition often.

The late effort was charged by Cayanna Stanley and Laniah Randle. Stanley finding rhythm late, scoring 6 of her team-high 14 from three in the second half. Randle was a steady part of the Falcon offense, finishing with 12. Jordan Bell, matched Randle’s contribution doing most of her scoring in the fourth quarter.
