Pivotal second quarter leads Hoisington girls
HOISINGTON, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The Hoisington Lady Cardinals erased an early deficit to defeat the Haven Lady Wildcats 46 to 34.
Hoisington led early in the game. By the end of the first quarter, Haven took an 11 to 7 lead into the next quarter.
Within two minutes, Hoisington tied the game at 11 all. After tying the game again at 15, the Lady Cardinals took the lead and did not look back. At the end of the half, Hoisington led 23 to 15.
Hoisington kept their lead for the rest of the game.
Haven began to foul for possession in the fourth quarter. This strategy sent three Lady Cardinals to the line to shoot 18 free-throws. Hoisington made 11 of these shots.
“It was a good win for us,” said Hoisington Head Coach Mandy Mason. “We played with a lot of defensive intensity tonight that led to some transition buckets for us.”
Hoisington’s Macy Hanzlick led all scorers with 26 points. Her total included two three-pointers and going six of ten from the free-throw line. She also scored more points than any of the boys’ players in the next game of the night.
Brie Brawner led Haven with 11 points.
