Kapaun falls to Topeka in Newton Invitational Tournament

WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The Newton Invitational Tournament, Topeka and Kapaun Mt. Carmel competed on Friday.

Jennifer Jacobs took it baseline and went up for the bucket but NiJaree Canady slapped it away! Not letting the Crusaders score.

Sophia Gimino drove the lane and lobbed it in off the board, the Crusaders trailed 27-47.

Canady grabbed the short pass and fed it up ahead to Kiki Smith for the open layup. Topeka started to pull away with a comfortable 22-point lead.

Gimino kicked it out to Kaelin Quigley in the corner who then threw up the uncontested three and catching all net. KMC bridged the gap 30-49.

Tae Thomas tried to get the ball to Canady inside but couldn’t get a hold of it and the Crusaders took it back the other way. Gimino made the fast break to the basket and was still a 19-point game.

Canady was a big force inside for the Trojans, getting the ball to fall and drawing the foul.

Topeka won 79-50 over Kapaun Mt. Carmel.
