Eisenhower holds off late run by Emporia to win by eight
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Last game of the night at the Glacier’s Edge Tournament at Emporia High School between Eisenhower and host Emporia.
The Tigers got out to a quick 9-0 lead to start the game, but that momentum changed to favor the Spartans. Eisenhower held on through a late Emporia effort and won 45-37.
Allie Baker played tight to Addie Verbeck and came away with a steal. Off the break Baker took it to the hoop and found the bottom to give Emporia the lead 12-11.
But Eisenhower turned it on with help from Kennedy Nicholson who was feeling the shots from downtown Thursday night. Her first three tied the game at 14 and the Tigers go on a run.
Kila Respress kicked it out to Verbeck who was wide open in the corner. She threw up the uncontested three and nailed it to put Ike up 17-14. After that, the Tigers never looked back.
Good ball movement from Eisenhower when Nicholson dished it underneath to Carly Dameron, she laid it in off the glass. Eisenhower would take a 15-point lead into the break. The Spartans would make it a close game in the fourth quarter and come within four of tying the game, but the Tigers were able to get the eight-point win.
