Wichita Northwest runs North in January Jam
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - A strong shooting afternoon coupled with a staunch defensive effort proved to be the perfect recipe for the Northwest Grizzlies as they were able to handle Wichita North, 84-35.
The dominant performance started from the opening minutes, as the Grizzlies took a commanding 21-8 lead in the first quarter. That lead doubled with a 42-13 lead at halftime.
Honing in on the ball, the Grizzly defense allowed less than 10 points in three of four quarters. The most given was a 3rd quarter total of 14. A full-court press would force North into mistakes and turnovers. Those mistakes would mostly fall into the hands of Northwest defenders, the team finished with 21 steals.
Taye Lowrie was the main source of offense for North, finishing with a game-high 20 points.
Northwest was able to see its offense explode to its largest lead of 49 points. Five different Northwest players scored in double figures, David Duncan would have the highest total with 13. A key to the scoring effort was ball movement as Northwest tallied 12 assists as a team compared to 3 for North.
Each team will return for the final day of the January Jam on Saturday.
