Haven, Cheney earn spots in Rupp Tourney Final
HALSTEAD, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - A pair of one-loss teams will meet Saturday in the 51st annual Adolph Rupp Tournament final, with Cheney and Haven earning big wins in Friday’s semifinal round.
Cheney started the day shooting lights out from deep, rolling by Minneapolis 65-26. Lead by the two Harrison’s, Harrison Middleton scored 18 points before the six minute mark of the second quarter, finishing with a game-high 22 in the big win. Harrison Voth and Luke Grace were right behind him with 15 apiece.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 16-2 start, leading by twenty through a quarter and extending the lead beyond 40 in the second half with a fourth quarter running clock coming into play.
They’ll face off with top seed Haven in Saturday’s final. The Wildcats were in a back and forth contest for much of their game with Rose Hill, but their defense clamped down to allow just 2 fourth quarter points in pulling away for a 55-42 win.
The Rockets led by 6 in the opening quarter, carrying a one point lead to the second before each side went basket for basket for much of the ensuing 16 minutes.
The final for the Rupp Tourney between Cheney and Haven is set for an 8:00 tip Saturday night.
