WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Coming into Friday’s matchup, both McPherson (7-2) and Circle (6-2) were undefeated in league play, but the Lady Pups put an end to Circle’s six game winning streak with a statement 62-34 win on the road.

“I thought offensively and defensively we were very locked in and minimized turnovers,” said McPherson Head Coach Chris Strathman. “I thought the biggest thing for us was getting second and sometimes third opportunities because of offensive rebounds, that was key to us getting those extra possessions.”

Three Lady Pups scored in double digits, with Grace Pyle leading the way with a game-high 18 points. Kassidy Beam added 16, and Peyton Howard finished with 14.

“We had a lot of people step up tonight and take on the challenge and give it their all,” said Pyle, a Pittsburg State commit. “We have a lot of people not used to stepping up that stepped up tonight and that really pushed our performance.”

McPherson started the game with a 9-0 run, but Circle rallied back behind two three-pointers from Kimalee Cook, who finished with a team-high 11 points, to make it an eight point game at the end of the first quarter.

McPherson went on a 17-0 run in the second quarter and allowed just two points to take a 39-11 lead at the half.

The momentum only continued for the Lady Pups after the break, as McPherson scored 19 points in the third quarter to take a 58-19 lead.

“We played extremely well for three quarters tonight... we played the best three quarters we’ve been able to put together in a long time,” Strathman said. “I was really proud of our kids effort tonight.”

It was a total team effort that led McPherson to a 28 point victory, knocking off Circle from the top of the AVCTL D III standings.

“I think it was a huge confidence boost, especially with our mid-season tournament coming up this week,” said Pyle. “I think this will really help us boost our confidence and take us to the next level of play.”
