ST. JOHN, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The Hesston Lady Swathers came back in the second half to win 29 to 25 over the St. John Lady Tigers.

Hesston entered the game with a two and two record.  St. John took their home court with a three and two record.

The first quarter was a low scoring period.  The two teams combined for only five points.  It took almost four minutes before the first time a ball went through the basket.  St. John’s Heidi Fisher made two free-throws.

Hesston led 3 to 2 as the buzzer sounded.

St. John came alive with two three-pointers on their way to take a 13 to 8 lead going into halftime.  Payton Meyer and Heidi Fisher each sank a triple point shot.

Hesston came out of the locker room with a renewed defensive mindset.  The Lady Swathers held St. John scoreless for the first three minutes of game time.

A minute later, the Lady Swathers would retake the lead.  The lead would grow to almost nine points, 25 to 16.

In the fourth quarter, St. John would start chipping away at the lead.  The closest the Lady Tigers would get is the final score of 29 to 25.

“In the first half, we could not take the lid off the basket in the first half,” said Hesston Head Coach Matt Richardson.  “Fortunately, we had a sophomore coming off the bench to take that lid off.”

Katy Koeker came off the bench and scored eight points.  All of those points coming in the second half alone.

For St. John, Darby Smith led all scorers with ten points.
