WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Derby had the upper hand in this game with Bishop Carroll from the beginning. Leading by as many as 21 at one point, the Panthers defeated the Golden Eagles 61-44.

Derby head coach Jodie Karsak said, “I love our team, we’re big. But those three that are big are also athletic. Those long, wide wingspans across the top, that’s really hard for other teams to figure out how to maneuver against that.”

Sophomore Addy Brown said, “It’s definitely nice to have three girls over 6 foot, I think it helps us a lot . But if they’re going to run the zone against us the whole game then we’re going to get it inside, they’re going to come down, and then we’ll kick it out for a three. We have so many weapons and it’s just like if you shut one of us down, we got four other girls ready to go.”

“We kind of made sure we were talking a little bit more on defense and being more patient on offense. Just communication I think was probably our biggest thing,” said sophomore Maryn Archer.

Karsak said, “Tonight we played our starters a ton and they were gassed a little bit and those guys will emerge. We’re young after our first five.”

“We have a lot of new parts this year so it just takes reps and more games. We’re going to get better each game and that’s our goal,” said Brown.

The Panthers are now 3-0 on the season and said they still have things to work through as a team but are excited about their potential this year.
