Andover Central girls rally back from double digit deficit, beat Heights 56-48 in overtime
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Andover Central (2-0) overcame a 13-point deficit in the first half to beat Heights (2-1) in overtime on the road Friday night in the GWAL vs. AVCTL Challenge.
“I’m super proud of the fight tonight. Heights is a great team and we were behind most of the game,” said Andover Central Head Coach Stana Jefferson. “Then in the last two minutes we decided to go on top and win in overtime, the fight never stopped.”
The Jaguars, ranked No. 2 in class 5A, were led by sophomore Maddie Amekporfor who posted a team-high 25 points. Junior Brittany Harshaw, a Creighton commit, added 13.
“This is a huge win for us because they’re one of the best teams in Kansas and for us to be able to pull off a win like this, it’s just awesome,” said Amekporfor. “We all had a role tonight and we all had to play our part and put it all together to be able to do this.”
The Falcons, ranked No. 4 in class 6A, were led by senior Laniah Randle, who finished with a game-high 26 points.
“They have great athletes on their team and they’re going to win a ton of games this year,” said Jefferson. “For us to come in here and actually get a win at this place, I’ve never been more proud of this group of kids.”
The Jaguars will face Valley Center at home on Tuesday. The Falcons will host North at home on Thursday.
