MAIZE, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The hot shooting of Andover Central proved too much for Maize South Tuesday, with the Jaguars pulling away for a 64-30 road win.

The Jaguars hit 10 threes in the win, paced by four from junior Ellie Stearns who lead all scorers with 18.

Central led it 14-7 after a quarter before Maize South fought back to cut it to a two point contest. That was as close as it would get, with the Jags closing the first half strong to make it a 24-15 game at the break.

After half the Jaguars scorched the nets, hitting half of their deep balls in the third quarter in nearly matching their first half total with 23. Stearns netted three of her four triples during the run.

Then their defense held the Mavs to just 3 fourth quarter points to close down a strong season opening win.

In addition to Stearns’ 18, fellow junior Brittany Hawshaw put up 17 while senior Bailey Wilborn added 13. Avery Lowe was responsible for half of Maize South’s scoring, leading them with 15.

Up next for both sides is the AVCTL/GWAL Challenge. Andover Central will travel to Heights for a highly anticipated contest with the Falcons Friday, while the Mavs will take on Kapaun Mt. Carmel on Saturday morning.
