WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Starting the second half on a 20-2 run, Collegiate came back from nan 8 point deficit to top Labette County 51-41 Monday night.

The Grizzlies put together a big second quarter to go up 28-22 at the break. Eli Hestand and Alex Meister both scored 10 points in the opening 16 minutes, hitting a pair of three balls each to put the pressure on the 2nd ranked team in 3A.

But after allowing an opening bucket, Collegiate’s “Defense Decides” motto rang true as they locked down the Grizzlies attack to score 8 straight points and tie the game at 30.

Then in the 4th, they opened the quarter on a 12-0 run to go from down 8 to up 10 midway through the quarter. That lead held through the remainder of the game as the Spartans opened the season with a hard fought win.

The Spartans held Hestand and Meister to a combined 3 points, allowing just 13 total after halftime.

Wesley Fair led Collegiate with 12, 10 coming after the break. Charlie Goree added 11 and Mekhi Beaubrun 10.
