Big second half pushes Garden Plain by Trinity
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Withstanding 30 points from Washburn signee Austin Broadie, Garden Plain put together a big second half to top Trinity Academy 64-52 in Friday’s season opening contest.
The Owls, ranked 3rd in Class 2A, put together a 10-0 third quarter run to pull away after a 29-all halftime score behind 20 first half points from Broadie. The Trinity senior scored 17 straight points for the Knights as they came back to even the game after an early 18-9 deficit.
But with Broadie on the bench due to foul trouble for much of the third, the Garden Plain trio of Madysen Zoglman, Alli Peutz and Brooke Hammond put the game effectively out of reach, outscoring Trinity 21-13 in the third.
Zoglman led the Owls with 23, with Peutz adding 14 and Hammond 12 to send the Owls to a 1-0 start. The Owls will play three games next week, taking on Rose Hill on Tuesday to begin tournament week. The Knights will look to bounce back with a home contest against Liberal on Thursday.
