McPherson knocks Buhler out of the playoffs
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) -A dog fight took place in McPherson as the Bullpups faced the Buhler Crusaders in the quarter finals.
On their first drive, the Bullpups were able to grab the first touchdown of the night. Brycen Labertew drove it into the end zone for six!
But the Crusaders responded quickly on their first possession. A handoff to Sam Elliott, who had a huge night, got him his first touchdown of the night.
On the Bullpup’s next drive, Dylan Rinker launched the ball 53-yards to Aaron Powell who front flipped into the end zone to expand their lead to 14-7, 7:20 left in the second quarter.
The Crusader’s got the ball back and Bradley Neill handed it off to Elliott who scored another six before halftime tying the game 14-14.
The Pup’s came back on their next drive and tried to get another touchdown before the half but instead, Rinker’s pass was picked by Mason Lipford, 14-14, halftime.
But that didn’t matter because the Bullpup’s came back after halftime and wasted no time grabbing the lead once again. An 82-yard pass from Rinker to Jaytin Gumm put McPherson up 21-14 with 7:45 left in the third quarter.
Again, Buhler wasn’t going out without a fight. They came back early in the fourth quarter with a touchdown to tie the game 21-21 with 10:35 left in the game. Sam Elliott with his third touchdown of the night!
But a mistake from Buhler might have cost them the game.
McPherson’s Jayden Dukes intercepted a Crusader ball which led to the Bullpup’s to another touchdown.
They took the lead to for the last time, 28-21, the Bullpups knocked out the Crusaders from the playoffs. The Crusaders finish their season 6-4, while the Bullpup’s advance to 10-1 and head to the semi-finals for the fourth year in a row.
