Wichita East battles back, tops Manhattan in playoffs
Wichita East advances to sectional playoff round
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Wichita East was able to advance in the 6A state playoffs after a 20-7 win over the Manhattan Indians.
The Aces continue to roll without freshman phenom DaeOntae Mitchell, and have since turned to senior Daylan Jones to handle the duties under center.
The beginning of the game would prove rough for Jones when a tipped pass from one of the East receivers turned into a Colby Klieman pick-six for Manhattan. That lone play would be the only points for the Indians on the night.
Jones would recover with three touchdown passes to his credit. The first, a short six-yard strike to Caquoy Patterson, while the latter came in the second half when he found AJ King for a 22-yard score. As East faced 4th and 3 in the fourth quarter, Jones would go on to link up with Patterson to give East a 13- point cushion
The Aces defense would prove to be big on the night, keeping the Manhattan offense out of the endzone. East would capitalize on stops in the redzone and turnovers.
Wichita East will face off with Junction City in the sectional round of the playoffs.
