Haven stuns Hutch Trinity, 20-18
HAVEN, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - A 2A matchup between the Hutch Trinity Celtics and the Haven Wildcats in Haven tonight, sees a big time win for Haven. The Trinity Celtics came into this game undefeated while the Wildcats came in 4-2, but the Cats take it 20-10.
This is a matchup that hasn’t been played since the 2017-18 season when the Celtics beat the Wildcats 18-6.
But the Wildcats showed up tonight looking for revenge.
Haven grabbed the first touchdown of the night with a fake handoff from Darby Roper. He kept the ball and ran untouched for a 42-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
Roper wasn’t done yet. He came back with the same move. A fake handoff and kept the ball again and ran it in for the Wildcat’s second touchdown of the night before the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Celtics respond with a touchdown from Walt Gray. He ran it up the middle for their first touchdown of the night.
As time ran out in the second half, a holding call on the Haven would allow Trinity to score a field goal.
At halftime: 14-10 Wildcats.
In the second half, the Celtics force a safety on the Wildcats, 14-12, 2:34 left in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, a pass from Blake Hammake to Andrew Bergmeier allowed trinity to take the lead for the first time, 18-14 Celtics, 7:30 left in the fourth.
But the Wildcat’s Darby Roper came in clutch with an interception with 1:51 left in the fourth quarter that lead them to another touchdown.
The Haven Wildcats hand the Hutch Trinity Celtics their first loss of the season. Final: 20-18 Haven.
