Northwest flexes in GWAL showdown, bumps Heights
Northwest cruises to a 56-21 win over Heights
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) -It didn’t take long for the Northwest Grizzlies to find the end zone in their game against the Heights Falcons. 15 seconds ran off the clock while Julius Bolden weaved his way down the sideline for an 80-yard touchdown to open the game. Big plays like the opener from Bolden would go on to boost Northwest to a 56-21 win over the Falcons.
On offense, the Grizzlies scored touchdowns on five possessions in the opening half of play. Northwest used an up-tempo approach that seemed to catch the Falcons off guard from time to time. With one of the best back field units in the state, Northwest mixed Bolden and L.J Phillips at running back while Geremiah Moore moved into spell Mason Ross when the Grizzlies went into the wildcat formation. While each offered a different method of attack, the damage was the same.
Heights was able to accomplish something no opponent has done all season against Northwest and put points on the board. On the first drive of the night, sophomore quarterback D.J Dingle called his own number on the triple option taking it 42-yards to the end zone.
Following that touchdown, the Northwest defense was on point against Heights, holding them scoreless for the remainder of the half. Heights found success through the air for Northwest. That success would go on to cost the Falcons when Darius Diaz came away with an interception and returned it the length of the field for more Northwest points.
Heights was able to come away with two more scores in the second half but it wouldn’t be enough to come close to Northwest.
Northwest will test an undefeated record against Wichita East in a week, while Heights will host Wichita South.
