WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - East and Heights came into Friday night unbeaten, and looking to take their place at the top of the GWAL standings. In a game many thought would be a high scoring shootout, it was the defenses that showed something early as the Blue Aces topped the Falcons 16-13.

The first scoring drive of the game featured a barrage of runs by several different Falcons. John Randle thought he had things capped with a touchdown run, but he was called down inches from the goal line. One play later, QB DJ Dingle punched it in. Heights missed the EP, but took a 6-0 lead.

On the next drive, East QB Daeonte Mitchell took a shot, and it paid off as AJ King was wide open on a long score. East then had two penalties on a 2-point conversion try, followed by a Heights penalty, and eventually a successful attempt to give the Aces the 8-6 lead. That score held until halftime.

In the 2nd half, Mitchell struck again with another TD pass, and East took a 16-6 lead. His counterpart Dingle then answered on another rushing TD, to get the Falcons within three at 16-13 late in the 4th.

And that’s where it ended. East will look to stay unbeaten against Southeast on Thursday night. Heights takes on unbeaten Northwest next week on Friday.
