ANDOVER, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - We expected a great game, and we got a great game. A back and forth contest from the opening whistle ended with a 34-26 Andover Central win.

Goddard opened the scoring with a long impressive drive, capped off with Kyler Semrad finding Jake Shope for a short TD. Goddard tried for a 2-pt. conversion but failed to make the game 6-0.

Later in the 1st, Semrad showed a little versatility, quick punting on a 4th and long from midfield. That punt bounced out inside the Goddard 3-yard line. On the first play from inside their own end zone, Chase White put one up in the air for Jack Bell. Bell beat his man, broke a tackle, and turned on the jets for a 97-yard TD. The Jags took a 7-6 lead, but it didn’t last long.

In the 2nd, on the ensuing drive, Goddard marched down the field again. Semrad finished the drive, this time finding Soren Carr deep on a touchdown strike. Carr caught it on his back shoulder, and held on, as he rolled into the endzone. The Lions were up 13-7. That score held until halftime.

In the 3rd, Andover Central answered on a White to Kyle Khoman short TD. The Jags led 14-13. Central added another TD in the 4th on a defensive score to extend the lead to 20-13. But Goddard tied it up at 20 on another Semrad to Shope TD.

Andover Central scored again to go up 27-20. Goddard quickly answered, but the Jags blocked the extra point, to keep the lead at 27-26. They’d add another score to finish it off with the 34-26 win.

Andover Central moves to 3-0. Goddard falls to 3-1.
