Cheney rolls to victory over Garden Plain
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Cheney gave up a second drive touchdown to Garden Plain, but that was it as the Cardinals cruised from there to a 44-7 win.
Senior Logan Bartlett was everywhere for the Cardinals, catch three of Harrison Voth’s five touchdown passes to go with three interceptions on defense in the win.
It was the largest margin of victory for the Cardinals in the long series history.
Bartlett answered the initial Owl score--a 60 yard catch and run for Colby Haukap--with a short field goal, and the following drive picked off Tranden Daerr in the endzone to effectively shift momentum for the rest of the game.
Voth then added his first score, a 70 yard pass to a wide open Marcus Peintner to give Cheney their first lead. They would extend it just before halftime on another Voth pass, that going to Luke Grace.
The win for Cheney is the first since 2014 in the series--they were lead by current Garden Plain athletic director Cory Brack at the time--and puts the Cards at 3-0 as they enter district play. They begin that next Friday by welcoming in Hugoton in the first all-time meeting between the schools.
The Owls suffered their first loss of the year Friday, and will travel to 3-0 Douglass looking to bounce back.
