Maize rolls past Campus 41-14

HAYSVILLE, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Maize rolled past Campus 41-14 to move onto 2-0 on the season in week two.

The Eagles found the end zone right away, with senior running back Joshua Sanders scoring a 30-yard touchdown in Maize’s first possession of the game.

Maize added on a field goal to take a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, but Campus responded with a 47-yard touchdown drive to get on the board.

In the final seconds of the first quarter, Maize’s sophomore quarterback Avery Johnson found senior wide receiver Jacob Hannah in the corner of the end zone to take a 17-7 lead as time expired in the quarter.

With a little more than six minutes left in the half, Avery Johnson found the end zone on a 2-yard run to give the Eagles a 24-7 lead.

The Eagles kicked a field goal and went into half up 27-7.

The momentum continued in the second half for the Eagles, taking a 41-7 lead in the third quarter.

Sanders finished the night with two touchdowns, making it five total on the season.

Maize will face Newton at home next week.

With the loss, the Colts drop to 1-1 on the season and will travel to Salina next week for a match up against Salina South.
