WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The Victoria Knights jumped out to a 22 to 6 first half lead to win their first game of the season over the LaCrosse Leopards 42 to 14.

LaCrosse came onto the field for their first ever game playing eight-man football. Victoria welcomed them to the new style of play with a Grant Schoenrock 24-yard touchdown rush at 10:55 left in the first quarter. Carson Werth added a 61-yard rush with two minutes left in the first quarter. After the two point conversion, Victoria led 14 to 0. Schoenrock took off on a 52-yard run late in the second quarter to put the Knights up 22 to 0.

LaCrosse would answer back with a 65-yard pass play from Caden Morgan to Colby Stull to make it 22 to 6 at halftime. Victoria dominated the third quarter adding two more touchdowns. Carson Werth scored from 26-yards out and Grant Schoenrock added the two point conversion. Jayvon Pruitt added a 54-yard touchdown but the two-point conversion failed.

Caden Morgan again found Colby Stull for a 54-yard touchdown pass. Haden Sherman added the two point conversion to give the Leopards 14 points on the night. Pruitt would add a 13-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the final score 42 to 14.

“We knew that LaCrosse is a well coached team with some players out,” said Victoria Coach Doug Oberle. “I know they will come back. We did a pretty good job up front of offense and defense. We had some mistakes, but that’s expected in Week one.

“We definitely have some things we need to fix, but I’m proud of what we did.”

“The no-huddle stuff that Victoria threw at us, flustered us on both sides of the ball,” said LaCrosse Head Coach Jon Webster. “Caden Morgen came in and played nice stepping in at quarterback with limited reps there. We have some stuff to build on, but the biggest thing we need to build on is effort.”

Victoria’s Carson Werth and Grant Schoenrock both carried the the ball for over 100 yards, 108 for Werth and 106 for Schoenrock. They also both scored two touchdowns. Jayvon Pruitt also added two touchdowns and came in five yards shy of 100 with 95 rushing yards.

LaCrosse’s Caden Morgen took the reins of the offense and tallied 174 yards passing on 6 of 8 passes including two touchdowns. Colby Stull led all receivers with 119 yards. He also caught both touchdown passes for the Leopards.

Victoria will take on Sylvan-Lucas Unified next week. LaCrosse faces off with Hoxie.
