CIK Season Preview: Southeast of Saline
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Southeast of Saline will make the jump from class 2A to 3A this season. The Trojans return a lot of experience on both sides of the ball, and after a 7-3 season last year, they’re hungry to make a run in the postseason.
“We really do have depth in a lot of spots, we got good football players in all four classes and that leads to the depth we have,” said head coach Mitch Gebhardt.
Leading the offense is senior quarterback and safety Jaxson Gebhardt. In his junior season he threw for more than 1,200 yards and eight touchdowns, he also rushed for 955 yards.
He’s joined in the backfield by senior running back Bryant Banks who racked up more than 1,500 rushing yards in the last two seasons.
“We have high expectations, we’ve got a lot of guys that have played together for quite a while so I think our expectations should be high and we should make a run in the playoffs,” said Jaxson Gebhardt.
The Trojans also return a lot of depth on the offensive line, as well as on defense.
“They’ve played a lot of downs for us and we’re excited about what we have back,” said Mitch.
In the last two years, Riley County ended the Trojans season. This year, with the move to class 3A, they won’t have to face the Falcons in district play.
The Trojans feel they’re prepared to make the jump up, but know they have a tougher schedule ahead of them.
“The biggest adjustment for us will just be playing more teams that have more people,” said Jaxson. “We’ll have to be more in shape to play the bigger schools.”
Southeast of Saline kicks off their season with a home game on September 4th against Minneapolis.
