The Orpheum Theatre is pleased to announce “A Summer with Marilyn”, a twice-monthly summer series featuring films spanning the career of the blonde bombshell herself, Marilyn Monroe.
The Orpheum is introducing this summer film series in 2012 as a supplement to its annual film series. This year the theatre has been running an anniversary film series, featuring films celebrating significant anniversaries, including “Singin’ in the Rain” on April 26. A series of Marilyn Monroe films was chosen because 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of her death and 50 years after her passing, the goal is to show that Marilyn still lives on.
The supplemental film series was chosen for summer because “we want to try something new and offer great entertainment during the hot summer afternoons, at an affordable price” said Chris Wren, Theatre and Volunteer Manager at the Orpheum.
All films in the “A Summer with Marilyn” film series will be 2pm Sunday matinees. Tickets are $5 at the door for regular admission, or $4 for students, seniors and military. Seating is general admission.
The schedule is as follows:
June 3 – “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”
June 17 – “The Seven Year Itch”
July 1 – “How to Marry a Millionaire”
July 15 - “Bus Stop”
August 5 – “Some Like it Hot
August 19 – “The Misfits”
The Orpheum Theatre is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that it is authentically restored and maintained through general community support and private funding. To provide a performing arts center that will offer quality entertainment, enhance educational and cultural opportunities, and provide an additional venue for tourism and economic growth for the region.
