Hundreds of young girls and women arrived bright and early in downtown Wichita to participate in the “Girls on the Run 5K.” The 5K welcomed runners, walkers, strollers and men to race in the event.
The race began at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, in front of the Wichita Boathouse. The 5K took runners around the Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, down the Arkansas River and back to the Boathouse.
The perks of the race included women’s cut t-shirts, refreshments, entertainment, and finisher’s keepsakes.
The proceeds raised will benefit the Girls on the Run non-profit in Sedgwick County, which teaches girls and young women how to engage in healthy lifestyles and build self-esteem.
