Patricia & Susanne's Melodramatic Society will present, “Someone Save My Baby, Ruth! or Foil That Villain!” at 7 p.m. on May 11-12 and May 18-19 in Cowtown’s Empire House Theater.
The family-friendly shows are part of Cowtown’s “Empire House Live!” 2012 concert/theater series. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. They may be purchased at WichitaTIX.com or by calling (316) 350-3323. Cowtown is located at 1865 W. Museum Blvd.
The show includes an over-the-top exaggerated plot, hero, villains and damsel in distress that melodrama audiences have come to love and expect. This story, in particular, revolves around the widow Penny Candy, her baby, Ruth, and hero/police officer Ernest Noble. The villain Sidney Swindle becomes part of their lives when he launches a plan to buy Penny’s The Sweet Shoppe candy store at any cost and sell the land to the city so the nation’s first subway can be built. Will Sidney Swindle dare to kidnap Baby Ruth and try to burn down The Sweet Shoppe? The answer to both questions is “yes,” and it’s up to the hero to save the day!
The “Empire House Live!” 2012 concert/theater series was launched by Cowtown in February, boasting a lineup of local, regional and national performers representing many genres.
Empire House Theater’s unique setting and intimate seating for 150 people gives Wichitans an up-close-and-personal experience with performers like no other. A complete list of “Empire House Live!” upcoming events is available at OldCowtown.org.
