The Dodge City wrestling team has had its share of adversities in 2012. As the new year starts so do the Red Demons' hopes of starting fresh and becoming more dominant. The Pratt Greenbacks were their first opponent of 2013 and the Demons arrived in Pratt expecting nothing less than a victory. They got up quickly on the Greenbacks and did not loosen their hold as the Demons took home the win 45-21.

Dodge City's Clay Weil and Dane Edwards ended 2012 undefeated and remained that way to start the year. Although the greenbacks came into their first dual of 2013 as the underdog they still had a dog in the fight. The Demons started off with an early lead but Pratt remained within competitive distance on the scoreboard. It started to get interesting in the heavyweight divisions. In the 170-pound weight class freshman Hunter Doyle would battle through three periods before taking the win by major decision for Pratt. Dodge kept the lead however 33-12.

The 182-pound battle was quick but not painless.  Junior Migual Marino flipped his opponent around early in the first period and within seconds Marino gave Dodge City the win by pin and a heavy lead. There were still two more opportunities for Pratt to make a comeback but they needed something big.  In the 220-pound weight class senior Austin Gates gave the Greenbacks something to cheer about but the win by major decision was not enough.  The Greenbacks left the 285-pound division open and freshman Christian Torres took the final points home for the Demons as he trotted across the mat. The Demons won and are on top going into the new year 45-21.
