The 2013 Wheat State Fall season is heading into the home stretch with just three football teams remaining with active seasons and this past week the WSL had three schools compete in state competitions.

Goessell High School competed in both the state cross country meet and 1A state volleyball tournament while Elyria Christian High School and Wakefield High School had runners at the state cross country meet.

Hope, Solomon and Peabody Burns High Schools saw their football teams qualify for the playoffs with the Lions of Hope winning their district and will play host to a first round playoff game Tuesday night against Hanover.

Solomon

The Gorilla football team concluded its regular season with its 8th win of the year Thursday night as the Gorillas defeated Pretty Prairie 44-28. The Gorillas finished as the district runner-up and will play in the opening round of the playoffs Tuesday night at Greensburg.

Little River

The Redskin football team concluded its season Thursday night with its fifth loss of the season as they lost 38-14 to Central Plains. Little River finished 2013 with a 4-5, 1-3 record.

Hope

The Lion football team picked up its 8th win in a row Thursday night with a 38-6 win over Goessel. The win sealed the district championship for Hope and they will open playoff play Tuesday night by hosting Hanover.

White City

The Huskies football team closed out the 2013 season with their fourth win of the year Thursday night when they scored a 45-14 win over Chase. The Huskies finished the season with a 4-5, 1-4 record.

Wakefield

The Bomber football team finished its 2013 season with its fifth win of the year Thursday night as they defeated Lakeside 54-0. The Bombers finished the season with a 5-4, 2-1 record.

The Wakefield Bomber boys cross country team qualified for the state meet where they finished in 7th place with 161 points and were led by Brandon Taylor, who finished in 30th place individually.

Centre

The Cougar football team suffered its third loss of the season to finish the 2013 campaign Thursday night as they lost 46-0 to Madison. Centre finished the football season with a 6-3, 2-1 record.

Goessel

The Bluebird football team suffered its 7th loss to conclude its season Thursday night when they lost 38-6 to Hope. The Bluebirds finished the season with a 2-7, 0-3 record.

The Lady Bluebird volleyball team finished 4th in the Class 1A state tournament. The Lady Bluebirds went 2-1 in pool play on Friday with wins over Caldwell and LaCrosse, but losing to Spearville. The 2-1 record qualified Goessel for pool play on Saturday where they lost to Hoxie 26-24, 25-14 in the semifinals and then lost, once again, to Spearville in the consolation finals, 25-22, 25-9.

The Goessel cross country teams ran at the state cross country meet on Saturday where the boys team was led by Heath Geortzen, who finished in 62nd place while the Lady Bluebirds qualified for its team for the state team where they finished in 5th place with 95 points and were led by Sophie Freuler, who finished in 15th place individually.

Peabody Burns

The Warrior football team picked up its 8th win of the year Thursday night with a 36-14 win over Lebo. The win secured a runner-up district finish for the Warriors and propelled them into the playoffs Tuesday night where they will play at Clifton-Clyde in the opening round.

Elyria Christian

The Elyria Christian cross country Lady Eagles ran at the state cross country meet on Saturday and were led by Moriah Redenbaugh, who finished in 26th place, individually.
