WICHITA, Kan. -

Last year was a historic season for Buhler. Coming off a 13-1 record and its first state championship, Buhler will be looking for returning players to step up after losing one its most prolific running backs in school history, Riley Allen.

In a two year span, Allen rushed for over 4,000 yards and 58 touchdowns, despite battling nagging injuries. This year Buhler will take a running back by committee approach until someone emerges as the lead guy.

Buhler was dominate on both sides of the ball last season, finishing the season ranked fifth by Max Preps. In 13 of 14 games Buhler scored over 28 points, while the defense held 10 of its opponents under 20 points.

Returning junior quarterback and defensive back, Jace Williams will be expected to lead the team with Allen now gone. While Williams picked up interest from scouts as a quarterback, it’s the defensive side where he has the most potential. Williams was voted first-team all-AVCTL at defensive back.

Other key returners are first-team all-Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division III tight end Chase Shantz, Dillon Engelland, Jaden Abernathy and Davey Dukart.

Buhler will open the season against Andale Friday night, September 5. Andale was selected as the top team in class 4A Division II by Catchitkansas.com
