Repeat Champions Highlight State Track Meet

Ark City’s Nicolle Murphy took a tremendous weight off her shoulders with her third throw Friday. With her toss of 151-1, Murphy broke the 5A girls’ javelin record of 147-4 set in 2009 by Pittsburg’s Amber Kloster.

Eighth place? Derby pole vaulter will take it

A loud crack came from the pole vault pit in Cessna Stadium early Saturday afternoon. The crowd of thousands grew silent just for a moment before resuming their attention to the other events in the state track and field meet.

Record books take on new look after first day of State Track

The first day of the nation’s largest track and field meet is in the books. So many new meet records were set including Ark City’s Nicolle Murphy in the javelin when she threw it 151-1. Murphy broke Amber Kloster’s record of Pittsburg of 147-9.

6A Baseball: Derby's Cinderella story comes to an end

The Derby Panthers baseball team has had a surprising postseason. They came in as the No. 8 seed with a 9-11 record and have been the underdog since the beginning of regional play. The Panthers’ Cinderella story came to an end when they lost in the semifinals to Olathe South 9-4 on Friday. They followed that up with an 8-2 loss to Stilwell-Blue Valley High School in the third place game.

6A Softball: Wichita Northwest takes third, Olathe East wins title
