The mid-season basketball experience did not finish out very well for the Wheat State League in 2012. The Goessel and Little River girls basketball teams each played in their mid-season tournaments this past week and each squad went 1-2 and finished seventh in their respective tournaments.
The Lady Redskins of Little River played host to their own tournament but dropped the first two games before winning the 7th-8th place contest while Goessel played in the Berean Academy Invitational and, just like Little River, lost the first two games before winning the 7th-8th place contest.
Solomon
The Solomon squads took the week off and will return to the court this Tuesday when they play at Centre. The Gorillas and Lady Gorillas will play at Peabody-Burns on Friday.
Hope
The Hope basketball teams swept Flint Hills Christian on Friday with the girls winning 58-27 and the Lions completing the sweep, 47-12. This week Hope will play at White City on Friday.
Wakefield
The Bombers and Lady Bombers lost all four of Wakefield’s game this past week with the Lady Bombers falling 39-27 to Blue Valley on Tuesday and 29-24 to Centre on Friday. The Bombers, meanwhile, fell 55-45 to Blue Valley and 75-62 to Centre. This week Wakefield’s teams will play host to White City on Tuesday and will play at Little River on Friday.
Little River
The Lady Redskins hosted their annual mid-season basketball tournament this past week as they lost in the opener 42-25 to Lyons on Tuesday, 52-47 in overtime to Ell-Saline on Thursday but came back to beat Bennington 32-5 on Saturday in the finale. The Little River basketball teams will return to action on Tuesday when they play at Goessel and will play host to Wakefield on Friday.
White City
The Huskies and Lady Huskies returned to the courts on Tuesday when they swept two games from Southern Cloud with the boys winning 65-32 and the girls winning 51-41. This week White City will play at Wakefield on Tuesday and play host to Hope on Friday.
Centre
Centre got back in action in basketball in convincing fashion this past week as they won all four games the Cougars and Lady Cougars played. Centre swept Flint Hills Christian on Tuesday and duplicated the feat on Friday by sweeping Wakefield. Tuesday the Cougars won 60-54 while the Lady Cougars won 52-25. Friday the Centre boys won 75-62 while the girls won 29-24. This week Centre will play host to Solomon on Tuesday and will play host to Goessel on Friday.
Goessel
Lady Bluebirds placed seventh in the Berean Academy Invitational this past week as they lost to Wichita Word of Life 66-29 on Tuesday, Douglass 35-21 on Thursday but beat Bluestem 53-43 on Saturday in the final game of the tournament. The Bluebirds had the week off. The Goessel teams will return to the court this week when they play host to Little River on Tuesday and play at Centre on Friday.
Peabody Burns
The Pabody-Burns basketball teams did not compete this past week. The Warriors and Lady Warriors will return to the court Tuesday night when they play host to Elyria Christian and Friday night they will play host to Solomon.
Elyria Christian
Elyria Christian’s basketball teams did not compete this past week. This coming week they will play at Peabody-Burns on Tuesday and will play host to Wichita Classical School on Friday.
