The Wheat State League conducted its 2012 volleyball tournament at Peabody Burns this past Saturday and the Goessel Lady Bluebirds ruled the roost as they marched undefeated, picking up five more victories on the season, to take the tournament trophy.

On the football field, Friday night, the Solomon Gorillas picked up anotherr mercy-rule victory, and at the same time, handed the Little River Redskins their first Wheat State loss of the season.

The win keeps the Gorillas on top of their district standings while Peabody Burns, Goessel and Hope High Schools still have shots at earning playoff berths in 2012.

Solomon
The Gorilla football team picked up its seventh win of the season, all seven coming by way of 45-point mercy-rule victories as the Gorillas handed visitng Little River a 52-6 defeat. The Gorillas will look to keep the winning alive this Friday night when they play at Central Plains.

Hope
The Lady Lion volleyball team traveled to Lost Springs Tuesday evening and lost both matches in the Centre triangular. Hope fell 28-26, 20-25, 25-20 to White City and 26-24, 25-15 to Centre. … The Lions football team kept its playoff hopes alive Friday night with a 50-0 win over Burrton. The Lions will look to keep those playoff hopes alive this Friday night when they play host to Tescott.

Wakefield
The Bomber football team picked up its third win of the season Friday night when they knocked off Pike Valley 46-20. The Bombers will look to keep the winning alive this Friday night when they play host to Rock Hills.

Little River
The Lady Redskin volleyball team traveled to Goessel Tuesday evening for a quad and lost all three matches, falling 25-12, 25-6 to Ellinsood, 25-16, 25-21 to Inman and 25-15, 25-14 to Goessell. … The Redskin football team suffered its second loss of the season Friday night when they fell 52-6 to Solomon. The Redskins will look to get back on the winning side of things this Friday night when they play at Canton-Galva.

White City
The Lady Huskie volleyball team traveled to Lost Springs for the Centre Triangular Tuesday evening and won both matches, opening with 26-24, 17-25, 25-17 win over Centre and knocking off Hope 28-26, 20-25, 25-20. … The Huskies football team picked up its second win of the season Friday night with a 34-20 win over Tescott. The Huskies will look to keep the winning alive this Friday night when they play host to Goessel.

Centre
The Lady Cougar volleyball team played host to Hope and White City in a triangular Tuesday evening and split the two matches. The Lady Cougars beat Hope 26-24, 25-15 but lost to White City 26-24, 17-25, 25-17. … The Cougar football team picked up its fourth win of the season Friday night with a 46-0 shut out of Hartford. The Cougars will play at Flinthills this Friday night.

Goessel
The Lady Bluebird volleyball team played host to a quad on Tuesday evening and won two of its three matches as the Lady Bluebirds defeated Little River 25-15, 25-14 and Inman 25-19, 25-11 but lost to Ellinwood 19-25, 25-22, 26-24. The Lady Bluebirds then won the Wheat State volleyball tournament on Saturday when they went 3-0 in pool play with wins over White City, Elyria Christian and Little River. The Lady Bluebirds beat Peabody Burns 25-22, 25-13 in the semifinals and beat Centre 25-15, 25-13 in the championship match and now takes a 27-9 record into sub-state play at Flinthills next Friday and Saturday. … The Bluebird football team suffered a 60-14 loss against Chase Friday night for its third loss of the season. The Bluebirds will look to get on the winning ways this Friday night when they play at White City.

Peabody Burns
The Lady Warrior volleyball team played a triangular at Berean Academy Tuesday evening and lost both matches. The Lady Warriors lost 25-11, 25-8 to Remington and 25-10, 25-15 to Berean Academy. … The Warrior football team suffered its second loss of the season Friday night when they fell 50-34 to Rosalia Flinthills. The Warriors will look to get back on the winning ways this Friday night when they play at Madison/Hamilton.

Elyria Christian
The Elyria Christian volleyball team saw its record fall to 12-16 on the season Monday with a pair of losses at the Hoisington Triangular. The Lady Eagles lost matches against Russell and Hoisington.
